Teacher Case Summary: School Prayer (Digital)
In this appeals case based upon a Supreme Court case, the student attorneys will be engaging in oral argument. Evidence is not presented like it is in a trial. In a Supreme Court case, one attorney attempts to persuade the Justices to rule in his/her favor, while the other does the same.
In actual cases, each attorney (or group of attorneys) is given 30 minutes to present its case, while also answering the questions of the Justices. You may decide to have a different time limit in your mock trial.
In addition to the student materials, the teacher case summary includes information about student roles and preparation tips, the sequence of events during the appeal, the decision from the actual case, and some additional explanatory materials that can be shared with the mock trial audience.
There are a total of 26 pages, including two title and copyright pages and the nine pages from the student case summary.
